Absolutely LOVED this anime May 06, 2008 reviewed by ChloeBlack101
I just recently rented this anime movie from Netflix, and I have to say I loved it. It has everything you could hope for in an anime, if you don't mind same sex couplings. Action, Adventure, Romance, Comedy, Suspense, Intrigue... all rolled into one 60 minute show. Watching this anime sparked enough interest for me to pursue the manga series, because let me tell you, one 60 minute episode is NOT enough. If there's any justice, they'll make more... But I don't look for it to happen. So I'll just watch this movie (as soon as I buy it) over and over again while I track down the manga series. Truly, as must see for anyone who likes action, comedy, and sweet guy-guy love (if you're anything like me, you'll find yourself rooting for poor Dee).

--FAKE-- Jun 05, 2007 reviewed by Niko
I found FAKE on accident, honestly. The series was gifted to a friend when she moved out of town, and I happened to pick it up. It was my first true experience with manga, as well as with shonen-ai...AND I LOVED IT! There is storyline involved, so it isn't simply a yaoi tale, and at the same time it offers nice shonen-ai without being too graphic(warning: volume 7 is a bit racy for younger eyes). All-in-all, it is a great series, and anyone interested in shonen-ai with a nice dash of cop drama should check it out!

the review... Feb 27, 2009 reviewed by ToadsRose (Fake Vol. 01)
I was hook on this series after the first few pages of this book. Sanami Matoh mixes suspense, mystery, romance, and most of all comedy in this series. The two main characters, Dee and Ryo, trudge through their jobs as police detectives all the while struggling with feelings for each other. Its a sweet romantic series that isnt too shy of action either. Highly recommended.

Awesome!!! Dec 27, 2008 reviewed by BMolina
This is the most beautiful, honest love story that I've ever read! I loved the drawings, the characters, and the storyline; the anime leaves a lot to be desired as it is only a single episode and I hope eventually they'll make it into a feature series, even if it's only 7 episodes long. Anyway, this is one of my favorite series and I can't get enough of it!

From such humble beginnings... Nov 05, 2008 reviewed by Pippin4242
Sure, it's not perfect. It's got a rough translaion, poor art transfer, the Americanisms are incomplete, and it's starting to look pretty dated. But the story and the characters are hilarious as ever, and FAKE is regarded as a genre classic for good reason. Less well-known than the wildly popular Gravitation, the romance is nonetheless more real to this reviewer; Ryo's reluctance and avoidance of the issues and Dee's passionate anger and frustration leap off the page and make characters who feel very much like people you might have actually met at one time or another. The shounen-ai plot is neither stifled nor the only focus of the series. With a full and varied cast of young and old characters, Matoh-sensei slowly builds up a real sense of the police department and its regulars, and the action and suspense is frequently more the focus of the series than the halting and awkward romance building between the protagonists. For a fulfilling and engaging shounen-ai, one has to look no further than this classic. And perhaps someday soon the licensors will catch on to the enduring popularity of this series and make a bid for the second season which is currently running in Japan, fourteen years after the first chapters were published!

Loved it, yaoi or not! Jun 16, 2008 reviewed by amusmental (Julie)
I'm not really a yaoi person; I can take it or leave it. I only own three series. That aside, this is one of them. The characters were great, the artwork is fun to look at, and the storylines are well paced and good to read. I loved Bikky, the mishievious boy, and Carol, the girl, and the adults (the other main characters) are fun, too! Even if you don't care for yaoi, I totally suggest picking up this series to read!

A sweet but action packed story Apr 11, 2008 reviewed by Sozuki
FAKE was one of the first manga series I read. It has the action of a regular cop magna, but with a touch of sweetness. Okay, a lot. Not only is the art beautiful but the story is as well. Dee and Ryo go through many trials together in this seven volume series. There is no actual physical action between the two of them besides kissing and a few gropping (on Dee's side). The final volume, though in plastic when you buy it at the bookstore, doesn't have a very graphic sex scene. Which is great for those who are testing the waters of yaoi. Through out the series, we see two main het pairings as well. My favorite is Bikky (Ryo's adopted son) and Carol. With Bikky bursting into the room at just the right time for Ryo but the wrong time for Dee. He interrupts quite a few things between Dee and Ryo, but it's all part of the fun. ^-~

Cute simple DVD Jun 22, 2007 reviewed by Ruka
If you have read the manga series then this DVD is nothing new from the first half of the second volume. That's all it is. Plucked straight out of the manga where Dee and Ryo go on vacation to England. Having said that if you loved the manga you would then love the DVD. Rather then a series it is more of a movie. You can actually see the characters you so love actually moving and talking, and of course Dee trying to get some action.
It's a cute and simple DVD. If you haven't seen it, it is cute, and after reading the manga it is quite cute to watch it as an anime.
