Addicting Adventure in an Ancient Anatolia Jul 25, 2007 reviewed by DamageCtrl
In this tale of a Japanese schoolgirl being transported into another world, Yuri does what most girls in her position do: make enemies with the wrong people, fall in love with a dashing hero, and get caught up in the middle of what threatens to be all out war. In a mix of history and fantasy, political intrigue and magic, Yuri is the target of a murder plot that will eventually bring the current Hittite Queen’s son to power. Yuri's saving grace is the rakish Prince Kail, who brings her into his palace to save her from his step-mother. While initially determined to return home to her family and new boyfriend, Yuri slowly finds her attention shifting as she is proclaimed a living war goddess and becomes the symbol of inspiration for the Hittite army and people. Civil strife, devious politics, and an international war serve as the backdrop for what is ultimately an adventure-romance between the kind-hearted, intelligent Yuri and the charismatic and determined Prince Kail. “Red River”’s rich cast, expertly mingled background of fact and fiction, and a love story that crosses time and space make it a heart stopping series with one surprise after another, leaving the reader hungry for more.

An awesome series that's original and spellbinding. Jun 28, 2007 reviewed by Kimmi09
Yuri is just another average teenager with everything going her way. She just got her first kiss from a childhood friend, got into the school she wanted, and had a celebration dinner with her family. Everything's great right? Not exactly... she's suddenly transported thousands of years into the past landing right in Ancient Anatolia (Turkey). What's more is that she's caught in the middle of a fight for the throne while the people worship her as the Goddess Ishtar. Who's this Prince Kail who seems to take an interest in her? The story progresses, including Egypt and surrounding countries while adding new interesting characters into the mix. A GREAT romance, adventure, historical, and all around amazing manga series that encorporates originality and just the right amount of everything. A MUST read series for any manga fan.

It really is an amazing series. Jul 16, 2007 reviewed by Dani
Well what first brought me in about Red River was the cover. It was laying on my friends bookshelf, and it just stood out because of the red binding against all the other light colored shojo manga. I'm also a sucker for covers, and I liked the way it looked. Then I started reading and I fell in love with the art, and the characters. Kail especially.
But what is simply amazing about this series is that this stuff really happened. Well most of it. When I realized that some of these events actually took place I began to open history books and find out all I could, and a lot of it is accurate information. Kail was a real person even if that wasn't Mursili II's actual name. Ramses was real too, Shinohara just made them her own for this. For me it's my three favorite things combined, History, Art, Reading.
It's a wonderful story full of amazing characters and about a deep love that defies time itself, because one wrong move on Yuri's behalf or a slip of the tongue and she could change everything. Not to mention that Kail and Yuri are always on the lookout for another one of Nakia's (Kail's stepmother) plots to kill both of them. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and impatient for the next novel to come out.

WOw Feb 06, 2008 reviewed by Phenomanal Woman
I love the plot of this manga, the way it reals you in and never lets you go. I will ad mitt that some books are better then other, but in a whole, this series has no rival, nothing comes close to touching it. I believe what i liek about the series is that it is a semi-fictionl history...the other day in class i learned about the Hittie people and all the other tribes in the book and was so excited, lol. PLEASE PLEASE PLEAE, start the books, they will take you into a land of Murder, Love and Royalty!

Amazing Nov 06, 2007 reviewed by Jenntegt
This is a truly amazing series. The character development and emotion that is put in to these characters pull the reader in and result in laughing out loud and crying in the next instant. The art is amazing, and so unbelievably beautiful. I cannot wait for the next volume to be released. This story tugs at my heart strings and then proceeds to rip them out in the next instant. Truly a one of a kind manga and storyline.

Amazing. Jul 16, 2007 reviewed by Dani (Red River Vol. 18)
All I can really say about this one volume without giving anything away is FINALLY!!! Volume 18 was a great read and I really can't say any more without spoiling it. But I suppose it will be a relief to some readers and then again maybe not.

Will this be any good? Feb 06, 2008 reviewed by Ryoku (Red River Vol. 01)
When I first borrowed Red River from a friend, I was skeptical in reading this because I though it would be another useless animes where the girl goes back in time and meets this really cute guy and blah blah blah....I think most of ya'll get the picture. But as I started reading this it got attached to me. Yuri, later known as Ishtar, is the dominate female in this manga. She gets carried back into time (Ancient Anatolia to be exact) because the Queen wanted her to be a sacrifice. Her plans get messed up and this is all thanks to Prince Kail. I'm not going to say more because I will give it away. I highly suggest that you go out and buy this manga. It is definately worth the money.

A Timeless Classic Jan 10, 2009 reviewed by Lady Gengi
I enjoy ancient history, so it is fun to see this time come alive in Red River. A modern girl sucked into ancient Mesopotamia, it is interesting to see how her twenty-first century culture interacts with the ancient. As the main female character, Yuri is strong and multi-dimensional and the plot moves swiftly ahead with each book. Combine this with a great love story about war, and all the drama that it accompanies, and you have one smokin' series. I highly recommend Red River as it quickly becomes a timeless classic.
